This season The Process changed its process and followed 1 artist over three episodes.
Through support from Arts + Public Life Performance Residency, Alyssa was able to work with Kierah ‘Kiki’ King as they worked on a new chapter of their latest work ABORT.
Each episode explores different parts of the creative process. Being inside the studio, how sound plays a role in dance making and a live episode where the community ask questions.
About the work
ABORT
is a multifunctional choreographic work stemming from club culture and the uprise of Black Women in rock as well as the intimacy interpretation around being seen. I am diving into influences of Women in Rock & Club Culture, Physicality’s of sex, lust, torture, ass shaking, and Choice.
By creating a dystopia of dysfunction and tackling what it means to be labeled and how that can look and have an effect on our bodies.The work is about finding solutions and peace within your own bodily voice, to give freedom to shaking and quaking, to finding Liberation in a call for attention to be seen and heard while also exploring how you can find silence, solitude, and rest within those moments.”

Insite the Studio
In this episode we go inside the studio with Kiki. I talk to Kiki about what the studio means to them, how they approach choreography alone in the studio and with their collaborator, Deja Hood. In addition to our conversation you will hear voice memos recorded during rehearsals.

Live Episode
Through support from Arts + Public Life Performance Residency we were able to hold an in-process showing of Kiki's work ABORT. After the showing Alyssa sat down with our audience to talk even more about the work and invited the audience to ask Kiki and Deja questions. On top of the live episode you get to hear recordings from in-process showing.
